About the studio
mindseed design is Shane: a one-person studio in Gauteng, South Africa, doing print, websites, 3D visualisation, campaign artwork and games.
Background
Shane has designed since 1996 and has traded as mindseed design since 2009.
The retail years
A long part of that time went into South African FMCG retail. Working as an independent studio through Stirfry Marketing, the work went into PepsiCo South Africa brand systems: Simba, Lay's, Doritos and Nik Naks, plus joint campaigns with Sasko, KFC and the UEFA Champions League.
A display in a shop has about two seconds and three metres to get its offer across. That work teaches viewing distance and legibility, and those lessons carry into everything else.
Direct clients
Recent direct work includes print and the website for Alchemist Wires, the hi-fi shop and consultation site for Audio Tweak, a new site for Skillfull Trading (accredited mining and industrial training; built, not yet switched over), catalogues for Jigsaw Media, and conference banners and an exhibition stand for Seaboard Trading. The studio also makes its own games.
Working with one person
- You brief the person who does the work. Nothing gets lost between departments.
- Your project stays with the same designer from the first call to the final files.
- If a job is wrong for the studio, you hear that instead of getting a quote.
About the archive
A hard-drive failure some years ago took a lot of archived work with it. This site shows what survived and what clients allow to be shown.

Start a project
Say what the work has to do, who it is for, and when it has to be finished. A photo and one sentence is enough to start.
